The Creative Pedagogies Network is a project supported by the Waipapa Taumata Rau/ University of Auckland Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Fund, aiming to bring together academic staff in the Faculty of Arts and Education, to articulate a shared understanding of diverse creative pedagogies as theorised and practiced. Through a series of public presentations, discussions, and social events we aim to develop a network of colleagues from diverse arts-based perspectives (dance, music, creative writing, visual arts, ngā toi Māori, arts of Moana Oceania, drama, screen arts, integrated arts, art education, craft, and transferable areas across the university). The network is inclusive and diverse in its definition of creative pedagogy, including those with disciplinary expertise in studio teaching to colleagues embedding creative pedagogies in more conventional teaching settings.
Our first event will discuss how our creative practice informs our pedagogical practices as artists, teachers and learners. Drawing from the various contexts of music, dance, drama, arts education and educational philosophy, staff from the Creative Pedagogies Network will each share their own insights and experiences. The session will also be an opportunity to hear about the project, join in discussion, and see if other staff in the Faculty of Arts and Education (or the wider university) would like to join the network and participate in future sessions.
